Earth Day : One of my bad experiences.

On the eve of Earth day, it is unfortunate that most of us are still not knowing why we are celebrating earth day. It is a matter of concern that still younger generation in this world are not knowing how to save the natural resources, What are advantages when we try our level best to save electricity, petrol, diesel or any other fuel and why we are suppose to save these resources and make other people know how to save all these resources.

I, being in the profession of education, still get surprised and annoyed when my students are wasting electricity by simply keeping fans or tube lights on or wasting petrol by having motor bikes with lesser average. But even more unfortunate matter is that, more or less, my colleagues are also not understanding the problems that might be faced.

I usually see people working hard to save electric bill when they have to pay the same for their home. But when these people come to their workplace, they don’t bother, because their boss is there to pay the same. If you are employee of government (either state or central), then... BINGO.... Government is there to pay for the same... Then why should we bother... that is not our concern... if we find lights or fans working without anyone in the room, then that are not our responsibility to switch it off. We have peons and other class –IV workers to do the same. Our job is only to come and provide our duties.

I usually expect such statements when I visit any office, but I don’t expect such things by people, who are concerned, rather engaged in teaching profession. We are usually need to set an example to future generation to save the natural resource or use them efficiently. Today, there is no need to celebrate or organize EARTH HOUR, but the real need is to save electricity and other natural resources.

Being a teacher, it is my responsibility to make the students understand the importance of saving natural resources. But first of all, I need to act this way. I am the one who has to keep example against my students. But the behaviour of my colleagues really hurt me a lot. What is the future if we are not going to take the responsibility for the same? I am not bothered that I have got differences on an issue, but where is the sense of responsibility to accept that that person is not bothered to save nature?

We should switch off the electric device which is consuming unnecessary power. Maximizing use of CFLs instead of regular bulb, using other natural means of cooling rather than refrigeration. Being in the profession of academics, we have to take responsibility to make the students, rather younger generation to learn their responsibility to save natural resource. It is not the thing that we celebrate the EARTH DAY only once in a year. But the real thing is.... WE HAVE TO CELEBRATE EVERYDAY AS EARTH DAY.

SAVE ELECTRICITY... SAVE WATER... SAVE EARTH... SAVE NATURE... SAVE FUTURE... SAVE HUMANITY...
